MTN With Fenix Plans To Bring 1 Million African Out Of Darkness

MTN, which is Africa’s largest telecom company has extended a hand for partnership with Fenix International to provide a pay-to own solar power systems for Zambia where people are deprived of having their own electricity grid. MTN is the continent’s largest wireless power carriers.

The company is targeting to have this project accepted by over 1 million people within the next three years where a customer is expected to pay as less ass $0.20 per day unless they have their own battery system and solar panel. Which is estimated to be of the size of a personal computer that would help people to charge their small devices and light up their homes. MTN, who has been working with Fenix since 7 years is gaining new customers as it is working on expanding the services beyond data connections and calls.

Venture Proposes To Benefit Zambian People Living In Fuel Poverty

Fenix is expected to sell its service in a much cleaner and a cheaper rate as compared to alternatives like candles, kerosene lamps, firewood, etc. that are still used by the numerous people that are surviving the fuel poverty in Africa. Fenix’s CEO, Lyndsay Handler said that about 80% of Zambian population, which comprises of almost 15 million people live without any access to country’s electricity grid and he aims at providing power supply to at least 850,000 of them by 2020. The partner companies are already working in Uganda, which is expected to turn profitable by this year end. The company is targeting to expand in 10 countries in coming 4 years and turning it into a profitable deal.
