Three of the largest soft-drink companies in the world have embarked on a journey to save the world from plastics. Coca Cola, Dr. Pepper, and Pepsi Co have launched Every Bottle Back initiative. This program promises to offer significant solutions to plastic waste in the United States.
According to Coca-Cola representative, there are three key aspects that need our immediate attention to solve the plastic crisis. These three including sorting, processing, and collection of plastic bottles are major part of their campaign. Additionally, the company plans to invest $100 million to improve these processes coupled with a side-campaign to raise awareness. The plastic bottles made of polyethylene terephthalate or PET are 100% recyclable. So, hopefully with consumers joining hands, plastic waste from soft drinks can witness a significant reduction.
More Education and More Hands May Promise a New Beginning
Jim Dinkins, the President of Coca-Cola’s North America division said, there is a need to work in partnerships and in tandem with each other to ensure bottles have multiple production lives. The trio of soft-drink makers also plan to work with The Recycling Program to improve the recycling process. Moreover, the companies are likely to favor parts of the country wherein there are large recycling facilities available to process PET bottles into PET pellets.
Furthermore, the recycling program will also focus on education in communities. The program will educate communities about better recycling parts, or more specifically larger-lidded carts to drive recycling.
Plastic pollution is ruining millions of lives around the globe. It isn’t just companies but also lack of awareness among consumers that is running lives. Unfortunately, it isn’t just human lives at stake. Every year, various dead marine species arrive on shores trapped in human generated plastic and other forms of waste. Hopefully, this campaign is the much-needed new beginning in preserving the natural beauty of life as we know it!
